Neal Palles, LCSW, CMPC
Welcome. I’m Neal, I'm a psychotherapist with over twenty years working in the mental health field. I'm also a certified mental performance consultant® (CMPC) - a nationally recognized certification demonstrating training and experience in applied sport psychology. I'm an also an athlete. My background is in the mountains- rock-climbing, skiing, rafting, running - and training for big events like the Leadville 100 run, the Leadville 100 mountain bike and the Boston Marathon. My mission is to help athletes overcome mental health roadblocks and commit to what matters.
Committing to what matters.
What is that?
It's committing to those things in our life that are important us. How we want to show up for ourselves, others and the world around us.
It's the stuff that lies underneath our goals. The stuff that gives us meaning. The bearings on a compass.
If you're like me, you know it's easy to get off course from time to time. There's a lot that can get in the way of those bearings.
It's never a straight line.
When we start moving towards those things it's inevitable that stuff happens.
With athletes I see, it's sometimes an injury, trauma, or illness. Sometimes it's fear or pressure that gets in the way - and makes us do all sorts of things - like procrastinate, or we try to be perfect - so we don't have to feel the fear….We can get anxious, sad, depressed, we can lose someone that's important to us. Sometimes we get so worked up thinking about it - it can make us panic, and we end up avoiding our goals entirely!
We can lose faith in our abilities to navigate the challenges….
We get stuck in holding pattern or start descending.
Athletes I work with, ages 17+ whether in psychotherapy or mental performance coaching stop feeling pushed around by painful thoughts and feelings, they find what matters and learn to stay the course no matter the stuff that shows up. They start to reach their goals. They learn to pivot on their careers and start doing what they love. They become closer with their partners, their family and still strive for high performance and keep committing to action. They find success on the track and in the moutains.
They become and feel whole.
Reach out to me now to see if we’re a good fit and commit to action.

"You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again. So why bother in the first place? Just this: What is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above."
