Create space outside of your sport. Find time to connect with friends that aren’t your ‘running friends.’ Find time to work on the other parts of yourself - for some that may be art, music, or spending time with your family. Even just a little investment will help you prevent that foreclosure on on your identity. It will help prevent burnout, help you recover, and help you when times get rough.

Leadman: The Leadville Marathon

While marathons in general don’t pull punches, this one in particular can be pretty sharp. The race starts in downtown Leadville and goes up to 13000’ at Mosquito Pass, turns around and goes up and down a few more times before a long steep downhill back into town. It is one that gets uncomfortable fast especially if you haven’t been acclimatized to the altitude.
